As soon as I heard that there was gonna be a music drama titled Queens on ABC starring Ruff Ryders’ First Lady Eve; 3LW alum and star of the 2009 iteration of Fame Naturi Naughton, The League actress Nadine Velazquez; and the one and only “I Wanna Be Down” icon Brandy I was immediately on board.
Queens, which debuts October 19 at 10:01pm EDT, follows is answer to Peacock’s Girls5Eva and follows four women in their 40s who reunite for a chance to recapture their fame and regain the swagger they had in the ‘90s when they were legends in the hip-hop world. Eve plays Brianna aka Professor Sex, Naughton plays Jill aka Da Thrill, Nadine Velazquez is Valeria aka Butter Pecan and Brandy plays Naomi aka Xplicit Lyrics. In addition, Taylore Sele plays Eric Jones while Pepi Sonuga plays Lil Muffin.
ABC dropped an extended look at the series which starts off with a hilarious but kind of sad scene featuring Brianna interacting with kids who remind her that her glory days as a rapper are now over and is now the mother of five. It serves as a launching pad to bring the band back together to reclaim their thrones as hip-hop legends.
Watch the extended look at Queens below.
