ARRAY is set to honor the iconic Oscar-nominated filmmaker Mira Nair with a double-feature screening of her seminal films Mississippi Masala and Monsoon Wedding on the ARRAY Creative Campus in Los Angeles on October 31.

The screenings celebrate the landmark anniversaries of Nair’s two classic films. Mississippi Masala is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a 4K restoration and is being presented to the ARRAY Community courtesy of Janus Films while Monsoon Wedding celebrates its 20th anniversary). The day will begin with Monsoon Wedding, followed by a conversation between Ava DuVernay and Nair, and conclude with Mississippi Masala.

Free tickets to both screenings are available at arrayplay.com. This marks ARRAY’s second filmmaker celebration, having recently welcomed Haile Gerima for the release of his landmark film Sankofa.

Monsoon Wedding follows the Verma family as they reunite from around the world to attend a large Punjabi wedding in New Delhi. The family’s hopes, fears and long-guarded secrets emerge during the frantic wedding preparations. Five intersecting stories explore different aspects of love.

As Nair’s second feature Mississippi Masala stars Denzel Washington and Sarita Choudhury and showcases the vibrant cultures of India, Uganda, and the American South. Choudhury plays Mina, whose Indian family is ousted from their home in Uganda by dictator Idi Amin. They relocate to Mississippi to start a new life. Mina falls for Demetrius (Washington), a young carpet cleaner, despite the protestations of their families over their racial difference. The families and their surrounding communities begin to feud, putting even more pressure on the couple’s romance.
