Midsommar at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures – 7:30 PM, January 10: Following a tragic loss, Dani (Florence Pugh) latches on to a trip to Sweden with her boyfriend, Christian (Jack Reynor), and his roommates on a mission to research a commune in rural Hälsingland. The community’s ghastly pagan midsummer rituals, however, test the couple’s already strained relationship. To develop the fictional Hårga cult, filmmaker Ari Aster worked with production designer Henrik Svensson to research Norse mythology, Swedish folklore, and European May Day and Midsummer traditions. The Music Center’s Innovation Social: Reflections on Loss, Hope and Renewal – 6 PM, January 9: In January 2025, Los Angeles endured one of the most devastating fire seasons in its recent history. A year later, many Angelenos are still rebuilding – navigating displacement, processing loss and returning to neighborhoods forever changed.
The Music Center’s Innovation Social: Reflection on Loss, Hope and Renewal features immersive work from Arizona State University’s (ASU) Narrative and Emerging Media program under the guidance of founding director Nonny de la Peña. This event will demonstrate how immersive tools can help communities remember, reflect and find meaning after collective events like the Los Angeles wildfires.
Guests will explore VR stories, AR moments and interactive stations that capture personal memory and invite reflection on what comes next. The Music Center, 135 N. Grand Ave., Los Angeles
