The California African American Museum celebrates and honors Martin Luther King Jr. on January 19 with King Day 2026 that includes day of events from 10 AM – 5 PM:
Honor Martin Luther King Jr. with a performance by the Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles, a discussion with the King Study Group, family activities, food trucks, and more.
This year, King Day will once again include a community service book donation drive with the Los Angeles Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., supporting the Little Free Library at the Crenshaw Family YMCA. We invite you to participate in this initiative by donating children’s books—new or gently used—that can inspire, educate, and entertain young readers and foster a love for reading among the children in our community. Picture books, early readers, and chapter books are all welcome! Donations can be dropped off at the Museum throughout the day-long festivities.
The California African American Museum will also host a “King Day” scavenger hunt on January 18 starting at 2 PM,
Explore CAAM with a specially designed clue board in hand. Participants follow prompts through the galleries that spark close looking, conversation, and unexpected connections. Each scavenger hunt is inspired by current exhibitions and timely themes. The first teams to complete a winning pattern will receive a small CAAM-branded prize.
