Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater – March 25-29: A powerhouse of artistic excellence, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater carries forward a legacy of African American strength, resilience and joy through the power of movement. Founded in 1958 by Alvin Ailey, the company revolutionized modern dance, centering Black culture and storytelling on stages throughout the world, while transcending boundaries of race, faith and nationality with its universal humanity. Revelations, Ailey’s iconic masterpiece, remains a soul-stirring tribute to the Black experience, set to the rhythms of gospel, blues and spirituals. The company returns to The Music Center as part of its exclusive multi-year Southern California residency, under the leadership of its new Artist Director Alicia Graf Mack. In two different programs, audiences will be treated to classic works from the Ailey repertory that have thrilled fans for decades and new works by contemporary choreographers that promise to propel dance in exciting new directions. Latino Theater Co. presents Level Up! by Gabriel Rivas Gómez – March 26-May 3: Desi, a trans tween, is afraid to come out to her family and only feels like she can be herself in her virtual world. A quest to save her dying dog pushes her to deal with challenges both in the virtual and real worlds. Level Up! is a play about gaming, family and growing up. The Los Angeles Theatre Center, 514 S. Kim’s Convenience by Ins Choi –through April 19: Soulpepper Theatre Company & Adam Blanshay Productions in association with American Conservatory Theater brings the award-winning comedy drama to the Ahmanson Theater. The play, which inspired the Netflix hit, follows the Kim family and their Korean family-run corner store. Mr. Kim works hard to support his wife and children with his Toronto convenience store. As he evaluates his future, he faces both a changing neighborhood landscape and the gap between his values and those of his Canadian-born children. Playwright Ins Choi, who will also star in the production as the titular character, calls Kim’s Convenience his “love letter to his parents and to all first-generation immigrants who call Canada their home.” Ahmanson Theatre at The Music Center, 135 N. Hamid Rahmanian’s Song of the North – through March 29: Created by visionary artist Hamid Rahmanian, this stunning multimedia production uses shadow puppetry and projected animation to reimagine the Persian epic Shahnameh. At its heart is Manijeh, a fierce heroine navigating a world of mythical beasts who must use all her strengths and talents to rescue her beloved, Bijan, from a perilous predicament. Hamid Rahmanian’s Song of the North is an epic love story with a cast of 483 handmade puppets and a talented ensemble of actors and puppeteers, all coming together to create powerful theater for young minds ready to explore heroism, heritage, and imaginative storytelling. Dragon Mama – through April 12: Broadway star Sara Porkalob returns to the Geffen Playhouse for the second installment of “The Dragon Cycle.” In this next chapter, Maria Porkalob, Jr. dreams of a bigger, gayer life beyond Bremerton, WA. But when an unexpected chance to escape arises, she faces an impossible choice—stay with her struggling family or chase freedom in the wilds of Alaska. Chain of Ideas: An Evening with Dr. Ibram X. Kendi – 7 PM, March 25: Malik Books proudly presents an evening with Dr. Ibram X. Kendi, National Book Award–winning historian and New York Times bestselling author, for a compelling Book Talk celebrating his powerful new book, Chain of Ideas: The Origins of Our Authoritarian Age.
In this timely and thought-provoking work, Dr. Kendi examines the ideas that have shaped—and distorted—democracy, tracing how authoritarian thinking takes root and spreads across societies. This important conversation will explore history, power, resistance, and the urgent questions defining our current moment.
Guests will gain insight from one of the nation’s most influential public intellectuals and have the opportunity to engage with Dr. Kendi’s work in person. The Miracle Theater, 226 South Market St., Inglewood.

Digable Planets – March 25-26: Digable Planets burst onto the music scene in 1993 with their Grammy-winning single, “Rebirth Of Slick (Cool Like Dat)”. Made up of Ishmael Butler (“Butterfly”), Craig Irving (“Doodlebug”) and Mary Ann Vieira (“Ladybug Mecca”), the trio carved out a unique style of jazz-informed Hip Hop. Shortly after, Digable Planets followed up with their debut album, Reachin’ (A New Refutation of Time And Space), an ambitious offering that Pitchfork praised as “a world within a world, complete with its own language and monuments.” The group celebrates the 30th Anniversary of Reachin’ in 2023. A Mighty Wind – 4 PM, March 27: Hey, wha’ happened? We’re getting folksy AND getting the bands back together for Christopher Guest’s third hilarious mockumentary/musical, A Mighty Wind starring a dozen of the funniest people on the planet. Three eclectic, never-quite-famous folk bands come together for the first time in decades following the death of their manager to put on an reunion concert in his honor. With all the Spinal Tap band members as their alternate personas as The Folksmen, Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy as Mitch and Mickey, the doomed ex-lovers, and the New Main Street Singers who worship colors, it’s a cavalcade of washed up talent all ready for the stage again after all these years. The Muppets Take Manhattan – 1 PM, March 28: The gang is headed to Broadway in this toe-tapping installment of everyone’s favorite bunch of puppets. Kermit heads out to find a producer and ends up slinging hash in a diner before a head injury and amnesia that lead him to big frog business. Will Kermit remember his friends in time for the show or end up a Wall Street Big Wig? Seven Samurai (Shichinin no samura) in 35mm – 6 PM, March 28: In 16th-century Japan, a small farming village faces the threat of a bandit gang plundering their next harvest. Following the advice of Gisaku, the community elder, the villagers embark on a quest to recruit samurai to help defend their village. Led by the disciplined and skillful Kambei (Takashi Shimura), the… samurai train the townsfolk to prepare for battle. This action-packed epic was highly influential upon its release, spawning several adaptations and remakes, most notably The Magnificent Seven (1960). Having been burned beyond recognition and forever altered by an experimental medical procedure, Westlake becomes known as Darkman, assuming alternate identities in his quest for revenge and a new life with a former love. High School’s tough. Russia’s tougher! Marry the two and you have a (completely improvised) teen drama from the 90’s… the 1890’s. Happy Hour Saturdays w/ Jenny – through March 28: For three Saturday Happy Hours in March, comedian Jenny Yang will work out new material about her Chinese medicine fertility experiences in Taiwan, the necessity for women to be single, childless and moisturized, and what it means to be more gay, Mexican and immigrant every single day in 2026.
