Marvel Studios is really giving an opportunity for people of color to thrive with their Disney+ series — specifically women of color. And rightfully so, because they deserve.
Variety exclusively revealed that multi-faceted writer Chinaka Hodge has been set as head writer for the upcoming Ironheart series which follows genius Riri Williams (who will be played by Dominique Thorne), who created the most advanced suit of armor since Tony Stark himself, Iron Man…who we all know died saving the world in Endgame. #RIP
Hodge joins a the Disney+ Marvel family which also includes the talented Bisha K. Ali who is currently working on Ms. Marvel starring Iman Vellani, while Jessica Gao is leading the charge with the forthcoming She-Hulk starring Tatiana Maslany. Disney is putting some shine on WOC — and we are here for it. Let’s keep this momentum going, Marvel.
Hodge is known for her work as a screenwriter, poet, playwright, and educator. Her credits include Apple’s Amazing Stories as well as the TNT adaptation of Snowpiercer. In addition, she has two books of poetry including For Girls with Hips: Collected Poems and Writings and Dated Emcees. In addition to being a founding member alongside Daveed Diggs of the hip hop collective The Getback, she wrote the plays Chasing Mehserle and Mirrors in Every Corner.
