Issa Rae is forming a rap supergroup…well, at least on TV she is.

Rae’s forthcoming comedy series tentatively titled Rap Sh*t has found its leads in Aida Osman, (Keep It podcast), rapper KaMillion (Love & Hip Hop Miami) and comedian Jonica Booth (Bad Girls Club). The half-hour comedy at HBO Max will follow estranged high school friends from Miami, Shawna (Osman) and Mia (KaMillion), who reunite to form a rap group.

According to an exclusive announcement from Deadline, Shawna is an aspiring rapper that hasn’t seen success and continues to work her day job at a touristy hotel while Mia is a makeup artist and a single mother to a four-year-old daughter and works three jobs. Booth is set to play Chastity, a “sex work manager” who refers to herself as the “Duke of Miami.”

The pilot, which was written by Rae will be directed by Sadé Clacken Joseph (Ponyboi, Knight, Finding Phoebe). Osman will also step into the role of executive story editor.

Hopefully, we’ll get to see nuances of Rae’s “Mirror Bitch” from Insecure.
