In 2011, I saw this amazing sci-fi horror comedy titled Attack the Block and I was gobsmacked. Fast-forward a decade later and the film’s star John Boyega is an international superstar… and now he’s ready to revisit the gnarly aliens that invaded his neighborhood in the film.

Deadline reports that the Star Wars alum is re-teaming with Attack the Block helmer Joe Cornish for the sequel. Cornish will write and direct the new iteration. No word yet on whether or not Boyega’s co-stars Jodie Whittaker and Nick Frost will be joining. I am gonna take a gamble and say that they will return.

The original Attack the Block marked the big screen debut for Boyega and also the feature directorial debut for Cornish. The film followed Moses (Boyega) and teenage street gang that defended themselves from a herd of alien invaders in South London during Guy Fawkes Night (read Wikipedia for more info on that). I mean, what more do you want?

The movie didn’t fare well at the box office but it garnered a cult following and has remained a favorite among geeks like me for the past decade.

“It’s been a decade since Attack the Block was released and so much has changed since then,” Boyega said in a statement to Deadline. “I’m excited to see this heightened story return to the streets of London. Moses has remained one of my favourite characters to play and bringing him back is a huge honour.”

“I’m thrilled we’re officially announcing our return to the world of Attack the Block on the tenth anniversary of the film’s release,” added Cornish. “I can’t wait to work alongside John again, bringing audiences an even bigger slice of inner-city alien action.”
