Snow White? More like Snow BROWN!

Actually, that sounds a little weird, but let’s hear it for inclusion!

Deadline exclusively reported that star of Steven Spielberg’s forthcoming iteration of West Side Story Rachel Zegler has landed the titular role of Disney’s live action adaptation of classic 1937 animated feature Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Marc Webb is set to direct with Marc Platt producing. Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land, Dear Evan Hansen) will bring flair to the live-action version with some new songs. Production is looking at a 2022 start date.

This could be the first time a person of Latinx descent has played the character in a major live-action studio adaptation. It’s impressive that we are seeing a little wave of inclusivity when it comes to casting live-action adaptation of  fairy tales that normally center white characters. Camila Cabello is set to star as the title character in Sony’s upcoming Cinderella which also stars Billy Porter as a genderless fairy godparent. In addition, Halle Bailey is set to invite us to be part of her world in Disney’s upcoming live-action The Little Mermaid pic.

Zegler is repped by ICM Partners.
