Angela Robinson Set For DC’s ‘Madame X’; Sarayu Blue Joins Lulu Wang’s ‘Expats’; ‘Crip Camp’, ‘I May Destroy’ Among Peabody Honorees

- Iconic D.E.B.S. director Angela Robinson is teaming with J.J. Abrams for a series adaptation of the DC Comics’ immortal sorceress Madame X.
- I Feel Bad and Happiest Season actress Sarayu Blue is joining Lulu Wang‘s Expats. The Amazon series, which also stars Ji-young Yoo, is an adaptation of Janice Y.K. Lee’s novel The Expatriates.
- The Peabody Awards unveiled their full list of winners for its 81st edition including Crip Camp, I May Destroy You, Small Axe, The Good Lord Bird, The Cave, Welcome to Chechnya, Immigration Nation, 76 Days, Asian Americans, Time, Post Reports: The Life of George Floyd as well as Ava DuVernay’s ARRAY.
- Heroes alum Masi Oka and Roy Lee’s Vertigo Entertainment are set to produce a feature adaptation of Akihito Tsukushi‘s Made in Abyss. Kevin McMullin is adapting.
- Samuel L. Jackson, Elaine May and Liv Ullmann will receive honorary Oscars this year while Danny Glover will be honored with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
- G.L.O.W. star Sunita Mani has joined the cast of Apple’s A Christmas Carol iteration titled Spirited, where she will play a version of the Ghost of Christmas Past.
- Taye Diggs, Gael Garcia Bernal, among others are set to join the audio series Playboy Interview which features teleplay-style re-enactments of the most iconic Playboy interview conversations.
- Kenya Barris is going to invade your earholes. The black-ish godfather has signed a development deal Audible.
- Nicole Beharie and Little America‘s Conphidance will join Regina Hall and Sterling K. Brown in mega-church satire Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul.

- The docu Dionne Warwick: Don’t Make Me Over will bow at TIFF this year…and if you are interested in the first wave of films at the Toronto-based film you can check it out here. However, I think the Dionne Warwick docu is all that matters.
- A new industry group, Out In Hollywood has launched and will advocate for untold and unseen LGBTQIA+ inclusive stories, curated by proudly out studio/network executives and producers. The organization also launched the Out Loud List, a list of the best unproduced pilot scripts that center on stories of gay, lesbian, bisexual, pan, ace, transgender, gender non-conforming, non-binary or otherwise queer characters.
- Bad news: Fans of Good Girls will be sad to hear that NBC canceled the series starring starring Christina Hendricks, Mae Whitman and Retta.
- Good news: the Showtime variety show Ziwe hosted by the titular writer.
- Wanda Sykes is set to join The Good Fight on Paramount+ in a recurring role.
- Atlanta and Eternals star Brian Tyree Henry is joining the limited series thriller Class of ’09 alongside Kate Mara.
- And last but certainly not least, the popular Facebook group Subtle Asian Traits is turning into a TV series. That should make for some great TV!
