Lana Condor Orders Some ‘Take Out’; Julio Torres To Write A24 Comedy; Marvel’s ‘Blade’ Finds Its Director; Leslie Grace Is ‘Batgirl’

- Lana Condor is set to star in the action-comedy Take Out at Hulu. The new series comes from Randall Park, Michael Golamco and Hieu Ho who will executive produce under their Imminent Collision production shingle alongside the The To All the Boys star. The series features Condor as Iris, who struggles to balance her personal life with her restaurant job — and her secret mission of destroying an evil crime syndicate determined to take over New York City. The series is described as a genre-bender that “takes an irreverent look at the modern-day relationship comedy while also deconstructing one-dimensional tropes from martial arts pop culture.”
- Comedian Julio Torres is set to write, direct and star in a yet-to-be-titled A24 comedy…. and it’s going to star Tilda Swinton.
- Malcolm X‘s daughter Ilyasah Shabazz is developing a TV series based on the life of her father. The series will be based on the novels “X: A Novel” and “The Awakening of Malcolm X,” both of which were co-written by Shabazz.
- Meanwhile, Kenya Barris is working on a a documentary about the relationship between Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali at Netflix.
- Watchmen actress Hong Chau is joining Anya Taylor-Joy and Ralph Fiennes in Searchlight’s forthcoming darkly comedic psychological culinary culture thriller The Menu.
- Marvel‘s upcoming Blade movie starring Mahershala Ali as the titular badass vampire-fighting daywalker has found its director in Bassam Tariq, who directed Riz Ahmed in the film Mogul Mowgli.
- In the Heights breakout Leslie Grace is set to don the cape and cowl as Warner Bros and DC Films’ titular hero in the forthcoming Batgirl.
