Civil rights icon, activist and trailblazer Ruby Bridges appeared in the special interstitial Circle Time with Miss Ruby & Jessica on the Cartoon Network which premiered today.
The short features Bridges along with an animated Jessica (voiced by Lucia Cunningham) from the Emmy, GLAAD and NAACP-nominated series, Craig of the Creek. Jessica talks with Miss Ruby about her experience being the first Black child to integrate into an all-white school in Louisiana in 1960 and asks what kids can do to be peace makers.
Bridges book, “This Is Your Time,” released last year, recounts her experience after she was chosen to be one of the first Black students to integrate into an all-white public school in New Orleans. Images of her as a six-year-old child being escorted to class by federal marshals is an enduring visual and her story hopes to bring peace while appealing to generations to come to effect change.
