- Jon M. Chu, director of Crazy Rich Asians, In The Heights and the upcoming adaptation of the musical Wicked, will be directing the film adaptation of Dr. Suess’ children’s book Oh, The Places You’ll Go! Set to debut in 2027, Dr. Seuss Enterprises and Warner Bros Animation Group have turned to Bad Robot Productions to produce the animated musical adaptation. This will be one of many animated projects that Warner Bros Animation Group and Dr. Seuss Enterprises have in development.
- Amazon Studios announced that Deborah Ayorinde, star of Them, and Hugh Anthony Quarshie, star of Stephen, will lead the cast of the upcoming drama series Riches. The six-part series is already drawing comparisons to HBO’s Succession as it follows a less than traditional, super-successful, wealthy family after the patriarch falls ill. Abby Ajayi, who has previously written for How To Get Away With Murder, created and wrote the series.
- Ready for another game of “red light green light”? Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk confirmed that a second season of the mega popular Netflix Korean drama is in the works.
- A Rosa Parks documentary is making its way to streaming through Peacock. The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks is based on the book of the same name by Jeanne Theoharis and will be directed by Yoruba Richen and Johanna Hamilton. The film, which is being produced by Soledad O’Brien’s company S’OB Productions, will feature exclusive audio of Parks as well as interviews with family and fellow activists.
- More hiccups are arising from the set of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, as star Letitia Wright’s vaccination status does not meet new guidelines released by the CDC. These guidelines demand that “non-citizen, non-immigrant air travelers must show proof of vaccination to fly into the United States.” Wright, who is currently in London recovering from an injury obtained onset, has not been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and may not be able to travel to Atlanta, where the film is being shot. While production for the Marvel film will be shut down until the early part of 2022, there is still time to make adjustments.

- Never Have I Ever’s Sendhil Ramamurthy will be joining fellow Indian actors Vida Balan, Pratik Gandhi, and Ileana D’Cruz in Applause Entertainment and Ellipsis Entertainment’s upcoming project. The movie, which is currently untitled, is being teased as a progressive, uninhibited take on modern relationships. Ramamurthy, Balan, Gandhi, and D’Cruz have begun filming in Mumbai and Ooty.
- New York Times best-selling author Brenda Jackson has struck a deal with production company The Cartel to option and acquire 25 of Jackson’s novels. Jackson, the first Black romance author to make the USA Today and New York Times bestseller list, will work with writer-producer Bobby Smith Jr. Some of the book series included in the deal are The Catalina Cover series, The Perfect series, The Playa’s series, and The Big Girl series.
