After years of anticipation, HBO has released the first official trailer for season two of Euphoria.

The show, which premiered in 2019, received critical acclaim and gained widespread popularity after its first season. Loosely based on the Israeli miniseries of the same name, Euphoria follows high school student and drug addict Rue and her friends as they navigate love, loss, sexuality, identity, and abuse. Zendaya made Emmy’s history as the youngest woman to win Best Actress in a drama series for her portrayal of Rue.

Although there is a nearly three-year gap between seasons due to COVID, fans were treated to two special episodes that depict the events that took place after the end of the season one finale. Series writer and creator Sam Levinson co-wrote one of the episodes with Hunter Schafer, the actress who plays Rue’s love interest, Jules.

The trailer for season two seems to pick up where the two special episodes left off: with Rue struggling with her addiction and frame after frame of beautifully shot teenage angst and drama. Watch the trailer below.

Zendaya and Schafer will be joined by series regulars Storm Reid, Alexa Demie, Nika King, Barbie Ferreira, Eric Dane, Angus Cloud, Jacob Elordi, Algee Smith, Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow, Javon Walton, Dominic Fike, and Austin Abrams. The eight-episode season is set to premiere on HBO on January 9.
