Academy Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o has been a queen from the jump. Not only can she serve you thespian-driven drama and award season tea, but she can also be that Wakandan warrior or give zombie comedy realness a la Little Monsters. Now, she adds espionage thriller action hero to her expansive resume.
In the Simon Kinberg-directed The 355, Nyong’o plays fomrer MI6 tech-savvy hacking genius Khadijah and is joined a team of bad asses including wild card CIA agent Mason “Mace” Brown (Jessica Chastain), rival German agent Marie (Diane Kruger), and skilled Colombian psychologist Graciela (Penélope Cruz). All the while a mysterious woman, Lin Mi Sheng (Bingbing Fan) is keeping tabs on them. When a top secret weapon falls into mercenary hands, they all team up to retrieve it.
In the vein of Charlie’s Angels and The Expendables with a dash of James Bond, The 355 is a globe-trotting, explosive non-stop thrill ride of bonkers action — and you will eat every morsel of it up. We had the chance to chat with Nyong’o about her character, how tech savvy she really is and how female-fronted movies shouldn’t have to be a novel genre.
