Netflix has dropped an official trailer and release date for the second season of Raising Dion. An adaptation of Dennis Liu’s comic book of the same name, Raising Dion is returning on February 2.
Raising Dion is the story of a widowed single mother, Nicole (Alisha Wainwright), whose son Dion (Ja’Siah Young) develops superpowers at a young age. After Liu wrote and directed a short film version of his comic that went viral in 2015, the anticipation for a full series cumulated in 2019 when the first season debuted. Liu described his short film as “Superman, but from Martha Kent’s point of view.”
Season one followed Nicole and Dion as he starts to develop other-worldly powers. As Dion hones in on his abilities, he’s able to defeat the villainous Crooked Man (Jason Ritter) by the end of the season. Season two picks up two years later, the trailer showing Dion as he embarks on refining his powers with trainer Tevin (Rome Flynn). The trailer hints that Flynn, known for his time on How To Get Away With Murder, may be playing Nicole’s love interest.
New student Brayden (Griffin Robert Faulkner), who also possesses superhuman powers, befriends Dion and drama quickly ensues. Navigating twists, turns, and surprise visitors, Dion and Nicole must prevail again — not just to save themselves, but the entire city of Atlanta.
The cast of Raising Dion season two includes Jazmyn Simon, Michael B. Jordan, Sammi Haney, Ali Ahn, Gavin Munn, Aubriana Davis, Tracey Bonner, and Josh Ventura in addition to Wainwright, Young, Ritter, and Flynn.
Produced by Super Spring Productions, with Michael B. Jordan, Kenny Goodman, Dennis Liu, Michael Green, Charles D. King, Poppy Hanks, and Marta Fernandez as executive producers.
Showrunner Carol Barbee teases that season two has “even more action, more mystery, more surprises, and yes, more powers.”
