Streamin’ demon Hulu is about to get more musical with a new musical rom-com Up Here from Oscar-winning duo Kristen Anderson-Lopez and iconic EGOT’er Robert Lopez (the minds behind the tunes of (Frozen and WandaVision) as well as Steven Levenson and Danielle Sanchez-Witzel (The Carmichael Show). The quartet will serve as writers of the series and will executive produce alongside Jennifer Todd and Hamilton‘s Tony-winning Thomas Kail who will direct. Levenson will step into the role as showrunner.
From 20th Television and Old 320 Sycamore Productions Hulu has greenlit the eight-episode musical rom-com series set in New York City in the waning days of 1999. It follows the extraordinary story of one ordinary couple, as they fall in love – and discover that the single greatest obstacle to finding happiness together might just be themselves – and the treacherous world of memories, obsessions, fears, and fantasies that lives inside their heads.
The Lopez duo will write original songs for the series. Casting is currently underway and production is scheduled for this summer in New York.
