The first trailer for Disney+’s reimagining of Cheaper by the Dozen starring Gabrielle Union and Zach Braff dropped this morning and not only was I smiling the whole time watching it but its a lot more melanated than we are used to with this franchise — and we love to see it.

The comedy debuts on March 18 on the streamer and is directed by Gail Lerner with a screenplay by Kenya Barris & Jenifer Rice-Genzuk Henry. It also stars Erika Christensen, Timon Kyle Durrett, Journee Brown, Kylie Rogers, Andre Robinson, Caylee Blosenski, Aryan Simhadri, Leo Abelo Perry, Mykal-Michelle Harris, Christian Cote, Sebastian Cote, and Luke Prael.

Based upon the novel by Frank Bunker Gilbreth, Jr. and Ernestine Gilbreth Carey the movie follows the Bakers, a blended family and their funny and heartwarming story as they navigate a hectic home life while simultaneously managing their family business.

Barris and Union are producing while Shawn Levy,  Brian Dobbins and Donald J. Lee, Jr. serve as executive producers.

The reimagining was initially revealed during Disney Investor Day in December 2020. The remake for Disney+ marks a third iteration of the family comedy as the first film was released in 1950 and was based on the real lives of Frank Bunker Gilbreth Jr. and his sister Ernestine. Another version was released in 2003 with Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt as the parents and they reprised their roles in the 2005 sequel.
