Disney+’s two-episode premiere of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder is on February 23, but while you wait we are more than happy to bring you this exclusive featurette where creator and executive producer Bruce W. Smith and executive producer Ralph Farquhar talk about bringing the iconic animated series back with the original cast (plus some new voices). We also get to hear director Latoya Raveneau talk about her connection to the series and art director Eastwood Wong talk about giving tweaks to the Proud family to give them a new look that still maintains the vibe of the characters we love.
The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder marks the return of the iconic animated series about a contemporary Black family navigating everyday life. Kids of the early ’00s will stan this new revival and new audiences will be introduced to the fam. The revival picks up right where we left off with central character Penny Proud (Kyla Pratt) and her eccentric yet loving family: parents Oscar and Trudy Proud (Tommy Davidson and Paula Jai Parker), grandmother Suga Mama (JoMarie Payton) and Uncle Bobby (Cedric the Entertainer).
In addition to the family, the series will introduce new neighbors Randall (Billy Porter) and Barry Leibowitz-Jenkins (Zachary Quinto), mixed-race adoptive parents to 14-year-old activist Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins (Keke Palmer). EJ Johnson will voice Michael Collins, Penny’s best guy friend who is a non-conforming trendsetter.
In addition, the roster of guest stars for the revival is wildly fun: Lizzo, Lil Nas X, Chance the Rapper, Normani, Leslie Odom Jr., Tiffany Haddish, Lena Waithe, Anthony Anderson, Gabrielle Union, Debbie Allen, James Pickens Jr., Courtney B. Vance, Jane Lynch, Marsai Martin, Jaden Smith, Glynn Turman, Lamorne Morris, Brenda Song, Tina Knowles, Eva Longoria, Holly Robinson Peete, Al Roker, Bretman Rock, Gabby Douglas, Laurie Hernandez, Dominique Dawes, among others.
