I think it’s safe to say that you should not mess with any form of matriarch living or dead because they will make you pay. That said, the new horror Umma written and directed by Iris K. Shim, should be a fair warning in how you treat your mother.
Umma, which is the Korean word for “mother,” follows Amanda (Sandra Oh) and her daughter (Fivel Stewart) living a quiet life on an American farm, but when the remains of her estranged mother arrive from Korea, Amanda becomes haunted by the fear of turning into her own mother.
My God, the trailer is absolutely terrifying. I mean, it’s produced by Sam Raimi and when his name is on it, you know they aren’t messing around.
Umma opens March 18 and also stars MeeWha Alana Lee, Tom Yi, Odeya Rush, and Dermot Mulroney. Raimi serves as producer alongside Zainab Azizi. Oh not only stars but servers as executive producer with Peter Luo, Cheng Yang, Yedong Mu, Tao Zhou, André Øvredal, Matt Black, Marcei A. Brown, and Jeanette Volturno.
