“It kind of creeps over you and washes over you,” said actor Justin H. Min in regards to the tearjerking emotion that After Yang will bring out of you.
Min plays the titular technosapien in the Kogonada-directed film based on Alexander Weinstein’s short story “Saying Goodbye to Yang”. You may know him from Umbrella Academy, but his role in this subdued and soulful sci-fi drama shows a different side of Min. We talked to him about how he got the role, expectations of the greater Asian community in Hollywood and crying on a plane while reading the After Yang script.
Watch the interview below.
A24’s After Yang also stars Colin Farrell, Jodie Turner-Smith, Malea Emma Tjandrawidjaja, Haley Lu Richardson, Sarita Choudhury, and Clifton Collins Jr. The official synopsis: When his young daughter’s beloved companion — an android named Yang — malfunctions, Jake (Farrell) searches for a way to repair him. In the process, he discovers the life that has been passing in front of him, reconnecting with his wife (Turner-Smith) and daughter across a distance he didn’t know was there.
After Yang debuts in theaters and on Showtime on March 4 — that’s today!
