When I first saw Taylour Paige in Stella Meghie’s comedy Jean of the Joneses at SXSW in 2016, I knew that she had an enormous amount of talent and that she was going to be a star — and I was right. She won Film Independent Spirit Award for her role in Janicza Bravo’s Zola, and now she is set to star in Tony Kaye’s upcoming dark comedy The Trainer.
Kaye also directed American History X so I am praying it’s nothing like that.
Nonetheless, Deadline reports that Paige will star alongside Vito Schnabel, who wrote the film with Jeff Solomon. Steven Van Zandt and Julia “Uncah Jahms” Fox are also in the cast.
The Trainer has been going through the Hollywood journey of “development” for almost a decade. The story unfolds over eight days of sleep-deprived chaos and follows Jack (Schnabel), a down-on-his-luck fitness expert living with his mother in Los Angeles, who takes a maniacal swing at fame and fortune, trying to realize his version of the American dream.
Paige has a queue of projects that include Lena Dunham’s Sharp Stick as well as the comedy Mack & Rita from
Katie Aselton. She will also star in Max Barbakow’s Brothers and Macon Blair’s forthcoming adaptation of The Toxic Avenger.
