The Marvel Cinematic Universe can’t stop won’t stop expanding in scale and in terms of bringing in dope storytellers to help them expand their scope and perspective!
Marvel Studios announced that Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes will direct the forthcoming Disney+ series Ironheart starring Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, a genius inventor and creator of the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man. She’s basically picking up where Tony left off.
In addition, Ryan Coogler’s production banner, Proximity, has come on as producers with Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, Sev Ohanian and Chinaka Hodge serving as executive producers alongside Marvel Godfather Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, and Zoie Nagelhout. Hodge will serve as head writer on the series.
Bailey is the co-creator of the Emmy-nominated Brown Girls and the creator of the Gotham-nominated You’re So Talented which bowed at the Tribeca Film Festival. Bailey served as a producer and director on the final season of Netflix’s NAACP Image Award nominee Dear White People as well as a director on the previous season of the show. She also directed Powderkeg’s East of La Brea.
Barnes has directed numerous episodes of television including the wildly hilarious Apple TV+ gaming comedy Mythic Quest, the Film Independent Spirit Award-nominated Blindspotting as well as the forthcoming season of FX’s critically acclaimed Emmy-winning Atlanta.
