The new teaser trailer for Netflix’s upcoming Marilyn Monroe pic Blonde starring Ana de Armas as the titular Hollywood legend dropped today and it just looks so…depressing — in a good way if that is possible. I mean, Hollywood loves seeing why icons suffered so this pic based on the fictional novel by Joyce Carol Oates looks like it will do the job.
Written and directed by Andrew Dominik, Blonde hits the streaming giant on September 23. It seems that everyone is talking about how it is rated NC-17 but I’m more fascinated with de Armas taking on this role and what it will have to say about Marilyn Monroe that we haven’t heard before. Why do we need this film about her?
The official synopsis reads: “Based on the bestselling novel by Joyce Carol Oates, Blonde boldly reimagines the life of one of Hollywood’s most enduring icons, Marilyn Monroe. From her volatile childhood as Norma Jeane, through her rise to stardom and romantic entanglements, Blonde blurs the lines of fact and fiction to explore the widening split between her public and private selves.”
The biggest question is: Will the Monroe dress Kim Kardashian wore have a prominent role in the film and should we start an FYC campaign for it now or later?
Blonde also features Adrien Brody, Bobby Cannavale, Caspar Phillipson, Evan Williams, Toby Huss, Julianne Nicholson, Lily Fisher, Sara Paxton, David Warshofsky, Xavier Samuel, Michael Masini, Spencer Garrett, Chris Lemmon, Rebecca Wisocky, Scoot McNairy, Dan Butler, Garret Dillahunt, Lucy Devito, and Ned Bellamy
Producers are Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Tracey Landon, and Scott Robertson. Christina Oh serves as executive producer.
