The new trailer for Elegance Bratton‘s forthcoming film The Inspection starring Jeremy Pope and Gabrielle Union dropped yesterday and I needed a moment to take it in because it takes you on a journey.

Based on Bratton’s own story, the film follows a young gay Black man (Pope) who is rejected by his mother and with little options for his future decides to join the Marines, doing whatever it takes to succeed in a system that would cast him aside. But even as he battles deep-seated prejudice and the grueling routines of basic training, he finds unexpected camaraderie, strength, and support in this new community, giving him a hard-earned sense of belonging that will shape his identity and forever change his life.

Written and directed by Bratton, the film also features Raúl Castillo, McCaul Lombardi, Aaron Dominguez, and Bokeem Woodbine. A24 is set to premiere the film at the Toronto International Film Festival next month.
