What better way to celebrate Filipino American History Month than with a trailer from a director who is doing wild, amazing things.
Directed and written by Martika Ramirez Escobar and starring Filipina stage icon Sheila Francisco, as well as Bong Cabrera, Rocky Salumbides and Anthony Falcon, Leonor Will Never Die made a splash at Sundance earlier this year, winning the Special Jury Prize. The film also won the Amplify Voices Award at the Toronto International Film Festival when it closed out the Midnight Madness program.
Francisco plays the titular Leonor Reyes, a groundbreaking figure in the Filipino film industry’s ragtag action heyday. When she is knocked into a coma while revisiting an unfinished script, fantasy and reality blur as she finds herself becoming the hero of her own story.
Leonor Will Never Die will open in New York City on November 25 at the Metrograph and on December 2 in Los Angeles at the Laemmle Royal and Laemmle Glendale.
