Beverly Johnson made history when she became the first Black woman to grace the cover of the August 1974 issue of American Vogue. This moment helped diversify the fashion industry and paved the way for greater representation of models of color. She has since appeared on hundreds and hundred magazine covers, worked as an actress in TV and film, authored a memoir, and launched her own beauty and lifestyle brands. Johnson has also been an outspoken advocate for diversity and inclusion in fashion and has shared her journey as being a “first” in the industry and the discrimination she has faced.. And P.S. She was a judge on America’s Next Top Model and RuPaul’s Drag U so you know she’s the real deal.
