In the new trailer for the Jamila Wignot-directed Aileythe titular trailblazing choreographer Alvin Ailey is heard saying, “I love creating something where there was nothing before.” That’s exactly what he did — and then some.

From the trailer alone, you already get Ailey’s vibe and the talent that made him the dancing icon that he is today. The Neon documentary spotlights Ailey’s commitment to searching for truth in movement resulted in pioneering and enduring choreography that centers on African American experiences.

The trailer paints a gorgeous picture of the entire film which debuted at Sundance earlier this year. Wignot’s film is granted grants artful access to the elusive visionary who founded one of the world’s most renowned dance companies, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
