If you were to tell me 5 years ago that Oscar Isaac and Tiffany Haddish were going to be in a dramatic revenge thriller about poker directed and written by Paul Schrader and executive produced by Martin Scorsese, I would have scoffed and then gone on my merry way. Now here we are in 2021 and Focus Features dropped the first trailer for The Card Counter and it ticks all the aforementioned boxes… and somehow it makes sense. I mean, does it look like a good movie? I dunno, but give me anything with Mr. Isaac and I am on board.
The Card Counter, which opens in theaters September 10, is a revenge thriller that tells the story of an ex-military interrogator turned gambler haunted by the ghosts of his past decisions. The film also stars Tye Sheridan and Willem Dafoe.
Producers are Braxton Pope, Lauren Mann and David Wulf. Scorsese serves as executive producer alongside William Olsson, Lee Broda, Ruben Islas, and Stanley Preschutti.
