Do we really need another Batman movie? Not really, but I’ll watch the hell out of them as they make them — and the latest iteration The Batman directed by Felicity mastermind Matthew Reeves is no exception (yes, I am a HUGE fan of the Keri Russell coming-of-age masterpiece). In fact, with Zoe Kravitz stepping into the kitty heels of Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman) and Jeffrey Wright making history as the first Black actor to play Commissioner Gordon, I’m actually excited about this one. Really excited.
The first trailer for the new Batman pic dropped during the close of DC FanDome today and, let’s face it — this is what everyone was waiting for.
Not much is known about the plot but in case you have never heard of Batman, the whole story centers on a billionaire named Bruce Wayne and the titular alter ego that he uses to work out his issues in Gotham City. Twilight superstar Robert Pattinson is donning the cowl in this iteration and he definitely continues the tradition of Christian Bale’s desperate-need-of-a-lozenge Batman raspy voice.
Since there has been so many iterations of Batman on TV and film, it’s come to a point where we are most excited about the actors portraying these iconic characters and how they will translate their story to give it a fresh perspective. Of course, Kravitz will slay as Selina and we already mentioned Wright is making history. We also have Paul Dano who is sure to bring some creepiness to The Riddler and there’s also Colin Farrell who will step into the role of Oswald Cobblepot (aka The Penguin). And in a non-CG role, Andy Serkis will play Bruce Wayne’s trusty butler Alfred. All of them can be seen in the trailer — and it looks damn good. Also featured in The Batman are John Turturro as Carmine Falcone; Peter Sarsgaard as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson; and Jayme Lawson as mayoral candidate Bella Reál.
The Batman is set to premiere March 4, 2022. Watch the trailer above and check out the posters below.
