From The Innkeepers to V/H/S to The Sacrament and even his role in You’re Next, filmmaker Ti West has a brand to which I have a lifetime subscription. Combining horror, thrills, classic B-movie charm & grit and delightfully demented creativity, West’s latest horror simply titled X stars Jenna Ortega, Scott Mescudi (aka Kid Cudi), Mia Goth (that’s an awesome name), Martin Henderson, Brittany Snow, Owen Campbell, and Stephen Ure.
Drenched in weathered and sun-kissed ’70s Linda Lovelace-esque patina, X follows a group of young filmmakers set out to make an adult film in rural Texas. Based on that alone, this is not a good decision. I mean, they might as well just wear signs on their back that say “Kill me, please”.
Things take a turn when their reclusive, very creepy elderly hosts catch them in the act, the cast soon find themselves in a desperate fight for their lives.
With this and Scream, Jenna Ortega is definitely developing a Scream Queen brand. Another fun fact:, Ti West directed an episode of Scream the TV series so that makes West and Ortega Scream franchise alums!
A24 is set to release X on March 18.
