Minecraft is the latest video game to cross into a new medium with Warner Bros planning a live-action movie with Jason Momoa in talks to star.
Since its release in 2011, Minecraft has quickly gained popularity. Mojang Studios developed the sandbox game that allows players to build and visit virtual worlds. As of 2022, Minecraft is the best-selling video game of all time, gaining over a million purchases within months of its release.
While the project has been in development for years, it’s been proven that audiences enjoy console-to-screen adaptations with the recent success of the Sonic and Free Guy movies. It’s still unclear what role Momoa will be playing.
Shawn Levy and Rob McElhgenney among others have been attached to direct. Momoa has worked with Warner Bros previously for Aquaman in 2018, with the next installation Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom coming next year.
