Gemma Chan has taken on husbands who felt intimidated by her fabulousness in Crazy Rich Asians and almighty celestial beings in Eternals. She is also set to step into the role of Hollywood icon Anna May Wong. Now she can add time traveler to her resume.
Chan is teaming with Shawn Levy‘s 21 Laps as well as Netflix for an adaption of Pim Wangtechawat‘s soon-to-be-released debut novel The Moon Represents My Heart, THR reports. Levy’s 21 Laps and Netflix optioned the novel in a competitive situation and is set to develop it as a limited series. This is part of 21 Laps’s overall deal. Grandview sold the option rights on behalf of Mushens Entertainment’s Liza DeBlock.
Chan is attached to star and serve as executive producer alongside 21 Laps’ Levy and Josh Barry. The story follows a British-Chinese family with the secret ability to time travel. After the parents vanish, their son and daughter search for them across time while coming of age as adults.
21 Laps senior vp Emily Morris, who brought the book to Netflix, will oversee the project for the producers alongside manager Moera Ainai.
The Moon Represents My Heart is slated to be published next spring by OneWorld Publications in the U.K., with Italian rights sold to Keller Editore.
