Pulitzer Prize and Grammy-winning artist Kendrick Lamar keeps on impressing and stretching his talents as he released a new 6-minute short film starring him and Indie Spirit Award winning Zola actress Taylor Paige based on his song “We Cry Together”.
The track on his album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers features Lamar and Paige playing a couple having a lover’s quarrel — and a lot of heated words are exchanged that spotlight things beyond relationships including identity, gender politics, and basically how trash the world is — until the end when they realize that they are all they have.
Presented by pgLang, the six-minute single-take short directed by Lamar, Jake Schreier, and Dave Free is a spot-on dramatization of the track “We Cry Together” and further explores the concept of a “visual album”.
With the cinematography by Adam Newport-Berra, the short film was shot with live vocals in March 2020.
