Picture it: you’re at the club in the ’90s and this song comes on. You rush to the dance floor in your halter top and bootcut jeans to body roll your way into the wee hours of the night thanks to dance pop songstress of the time Jocelyn Enriquez.
Jocelyn Enriquez is one of the many pioneering Filipino Americans in pop culture as she broke ground in the music scene when presence AAPI folks in the industry was rare. Her music reflected her her upbringing on the Bay Area’s dance and freestyle scene of the ’90.
She became one of the first Fil-Am artists to achieve national radio and chart success, most notably with her singles “Do You Miss Me?” and “A Little Bit of Ecstasy.” She had a strong presences on MTV, radio, and in the clubs bringinging visibility to Fil-Am talent in a paving the way for future generations of Fil-Am and AAPI artists.
