After all the news that Marvel Studios dropped this past weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, we thought we couldn’t get anymore — then THR breaks the news that Destin Daniel Cretton will direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
The Kang Dynasty is part one of a two-part finale of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 6. The Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director will helm part one which will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars.
No other news has been announced, but this is the cherry on top of a weekend where Marvel unveiled the incredible Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer and announced their plans for Phase 5 as well as the aforementioned Phase 6 which will kick off with Fantastic Four. The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars are slated for 2025 release dates.
We don’t know who’s writing The Kang Dynasty yet but we know that Jonathan Majors plays the titular villain, who first appeared in the Disney+ Loki series as a version of Kang and will return as possibly another variant in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on February 17, 2023.
Cretton, who inked an overall deal with Marvel, is developing a live-action series based on the Marvel character Wonder Man with Andrew Guest. He is also working on a Shang-Chi sequel. Outside of the MCU, Cretton serves as the director and executive producer of the forthcoming Disney+ series American Born Chinese produced by 20th Television based on the graphic novel by Gene Luen Yang.
